Coordinating outfits for the whole family can create a cohesive and visually appealing look in your photos. Check out our guide for tips and inspiration on how to choose the perfect outfits for your next family photoshoot.
Matching Outfits: Pros and Cons.
Matching outfits can create a cohesive and visually appealing look for your family photoshoot. It can also make it easier to choose outfits and ensure everyone looks good together. However, it can also be difficult to find matching outfits for everyone, and it may not allow for individual expression or personal style. Matching outfits can also look too uniform and lack personality. Consider the pros and cons before deciding if matching outfits are right for your family photoshoot.
I love dressing up in Mommy & Me outfits with my daughter for fun. But, I rarely if ever do for professional photoshoots. I’m not saying it isn’t cute and fun to do a matching Mommy & Me Photoshoot, it is! But, if I’m doing a family photoshoot with my three kids, just having two people match is kind of out of place (there’s only two girls). Yes, I could dress my sons in the same patterns, some shops have those available to complete the Mommy & Me look…but then we all look the same. Completely matching in photoshoots leaves the eye nowhere else to look in the picture but at the repeating patterns. You get so much more bang for your buck (photoshoots aren’t cheap!) when you coordinate instead of matching.
Coordinating Outfits: Tips and Tricks.
Coordinating outfits for a family photoshoot is a much more visually appealing choice for photoshoots, allowing for more individual expression and personal style. Plus, your pictures will look better! As always, we begin with out palette. Try to choose outfits for each person that are in colors that work for the specific person, the location and in coordinating colors. This can create a cohesive look while still allowing for individuality. Consider using accessories or patterns to tie the outfits together, and avoid clashing colors or patterns. With a little planning and coordination, your family can look great in your photos while still expressing your unique personalities.
Choosing Colors and Patterns.
When it comes to coordinating outfits for a family photoshoot, choosing the right colors and patterns is key. Start by selecting a color palette that complements the location and season of your photoshoot. For example, if you’re taking photos in a park during the fall, consider using warm, earthy tones like burgundy, mustard, and olive green on the people in your family that look good in warm colors. You can balance the whole look by adding neutrals in cooler tones for the people in the photo that look better in those colors. You can also incorporate patterns like plaid or stripes to add visual interest and texture. Just make sure you don’t put everyone in plaid, we don’t want any dueling patterns here! Clashing patterns and colors distract the eyes from the overall look of the photos.
Making Sure Everyone is Comfortable.
While it’s important to choose outfits that look great in photos, it’s equally important to make sure everyone is comfortable in what they’re wearing. Avoid clothing that is too tight, itchy, or restrictive, as this can make for an uncomfortable and unhappy photoshoot experience. Instead, opt for clothing that is comfortable and allows for movement. This will not only make for a more enjoyable photoshoot, but it will also result in more natural and relaxed photos. Especially for kids!
